Yes! You can make vanilla extract with Grade A beans. The FDA formula for making vanilla extract with Grade A vanilla beans requires a minimum of 15 ounces of beans to 1 gallon of alcohol solution in which the content of ethyl alcohol by volume amounts to not less than 35 percent—like Vodka, various types of rum, bourbon, or pure ethyl alcohol.

When to Use

Extract grade vanilla beans are made for extracting its flavor by brewing into beer, ale, and vanilla extract using a simple Vodka, a food grade ethyl alcohol, or food grade glycerin.

Grade B vanilla beans, also referred to as extract grade vanilla beans, are  dryer than the soft and supple grade A vanilla beans and not as pretty as regular vanilla beans. they are various sizes and have superficial color blemishes.

The aroma is locked deep in the flesh of the extract-grade vanilla bean. The dryness concentrates the flavor and gives you more vanilla beans per pound.

They were good and served their purpose

My only issue with these is that they were a little drier than I am used to for grade B. The communication with the company was amazing! Super friendly and helpful! I did order some of the grade A ones to see those as well.

I got an early order of these vanilla beans to experiment making vanilla extract for our restaurant. I was very happy with these beans and the extract came out great. I made some gift bottles for Christmas and they were very well received.
