The reverse side of the package has detailed instructions explaining how to cut and prepare the vanilla beans for making pure vanilla extract at home.

The vanilla beans are whole, extract grade, and are produced explicitly for making vanilla extract. Extract grade vanilla has an extended curing and drying process which concentrates & locks in the vanilla flavor. The flavor and aromas are released when exposed to alcohol.

Packages come in ½ ounce size.

½ Ounce of Vanilla Beans Use 5 Ounces of Alcohol: Add 5 ounces of an inexpensive vodka, rum, flavored rum, brandy, or non-alcoholic vanilla extract use food-grade glycerin to the entire ½-ounce contents of vanilla beans.

How It's Done: Preparation is simple. Just slice and scrape the vanilla bean, and add to a wide-mouth canning jar or jam jar. Then add your alcohol or glycerin—complete instructions are on the reverse of the package.

Vacuum packaging vanilla beans can create an environment for anaerobic bacteria to grow. The benefit of keeping vanilla beans in ambient air packaging is that vanilla will continue to cure and develop flavor. We know of a vanilla bean seller in California with 10-year-old vanilla beans that they continue to cure like a fine aged wine.
